彼女の眠っているくま – With her sleeping bear

With her sleeping kumaThe tough thing about being in a different country than loved ones is having to miss out on certain life events. Events that bring nothing but happiness, you know what I mean? Modern technology like video chatting, picture messaging, etc. kind of make it easier, but I’m sure any of you will agree that it’s just not the same. So when I last visited Japan, I made it a point to spend much of my time with my dear friend +Yumi Shoji and her beautiful baby girl. She was born at the end of last year, sometime after my last visit of the year, so I missed out on being able to congratulate Yumi in person until this trip. And since it’s not every month that I can see them, I really wanted to enjoy some quality time with my friend and my new niece. One day we decided to take a walk just around the neighborhood. You see, adventures don’t have to be epic, they just have to be spent with people you care about. So after some time exploring Yumi’s neighborhood, we decided to take a break and relax at a local park. At this point, Yumi’s daughter decided to take a nap. I gotta hand it to this kid, she can really get comfortable anywhere. He he. While Yumi was caring for her baby, I got up to stretch my legs and when I looked back at them I noticed this incredibly sweet scene. Yumi was whispering sweet things to help her daughter sleep well and I found it to be an incredibly loving moment. So I took this shot. From what I can tell, Yumi has been quite a natural and great mother already. So being able to catch these moments for her brings a smile to my face.

And if you haven’t guessed by now, I title this “With her sleeping bear” because of the cute little bear cub hat that my niece was wearing. She looks incredibly cute in that hat. Well, she looks incredibly cute in just about anything. I may be biased, but I don’t care because it’s a fact! ;-)

Thanks so much Onihei! This is one of my favorite photos of you and your baby. I’m excited to see you both grow together and hopefully I’ll be there to take many photos of you both together throughout the years. I can’t wait to see you both with each visit! ;-)
