Some time ago I decided to head over to the Griffith Observatory, again, but this time with a rented 105mm macro lens. I’m not much of a macro shooter but I had heard so many terrific things about that lens that I just had to try it. It had also been raining all day up to the point when I got there so I was really looking to shoot a lot of rain drops dripping off of the various plants and railings there. It was a good plan I thought. Some macro shooting followed by a beautifully cloudy sunset above L.A. Unfortunately after a couple of shots outside it started raining again so I had to go inside to figure out what else I could shoot with the 105. This was just fine with me because I’ve also heard that it makes a good portrait lens so with that kind of distance from my subjects, I figured I’d try to shoot some candid shots of the various visitors to the Observatory. That’s when I caught these two. It really represents the current times well, doesn’t it? Here they were in one of the most fascinating places in the city, but they were too busy with their noses buried in their gadgets. Either checking Facebook or the self portraits they took of themselves I’m sure. But don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying it’s wrong. It’s just different from when I was a kid. Besides, I had my face behind my camera the entire day, so I pretty much had my face buried in a gadget too. He he. ;-P
