Earlier at the beginning of the year while I was at Point Mugu State Park in Malibu, I decided to get some night shooting in before leaving the area. Cars had started to clear out as it was getting late, and it seemed dark enough to allow for some exposure times long enough to capture the moving stars. Unfortunately, just as I was setting up and taking some shots, several cars started passing through the area and the headlights were drowning out the stars in my original composition. So with a last ditch effort to shoot some star trails before packing up for the night, I pointed my camera up and away from the roads, to the tips of the rocky mountain range in front of me and fired away. Obviously I caught the light from the distant city lights and some airplane trails, but I actually liked how it turned out. It looks as though the light is sending stars up to the sky, like fireworks without the explosions.
